| We had one little guy who would never settle down enough to nap at daycare, and he didn’t sleep well at home either. When the Early Childhood Special Education staff came to help with strategies, they brought a weighted blanket that was customized to this child’s height and weight. The fabric designs also held his interest. By the second day of using it at nap time, he was sleeping for the first time ever. This has really helped calm him down, and now many of his aggressive behaviors are also decreasing. Students of mine that use Erin Judd’s weighted vests bring a valuable resource into my classroom. I would recommend them to anyone that has or works with children with autism. Even as teachers plan and layout their classrooms to be a structured environment, classrooms can be unpredictable and overstimulate students. Through my experience I have found that the weighted vests help deescalate students and help them regain awareness of their own body and space. This aids students to participate in group activities as well as stay attentive during one-to-one direct instructions environments. In my experience students are always cooperative when directed to wear the vests, which help teachers and paraprofessionals use them effectively in a time of need. Using Erin Judd’s weighted vests not only provide social and academic benefits for the students wearing them by helping them focus, they provide educational opportunities for teachers and other adults in their lives to connect to their students. The thing that impresses me the most about the Quilted Illusions weighted quilts and vests are that they relate to each individual's interest. Hi Erin, The weighted vest that you made for my student is just what we
needed. I love the muted fabric that you used - it is calming for my student and the vest doesn't have that 'institutional' look that come with some products ordered through special needs catalogs. We have washed the vest and it seems like the vest will hold up well to many washings. The weight in the vest gives my student the sensory input she needs to approach her environment with a calmer outlook. It's working!
I will definitely be a repeat customer if the need arises!
